Minerva Orthosis is a type of cervical-thoracic orthosis designed to immobilize the cervical spine and upper thoracic region. This orthosis is made from a rigid yet lightweight plastic structure with a soft foam interior and covers the back of the head, forehead, chin, chest, and back to minimize neck movement.

Applications of Minerva Orthosis:

• After severe cervical injuries and fractures of cervical and upper thoracic vertebrae

• Following cervical spine surgeries to stabilize the vertebrae and protect the surgical site

• In the treatment of traumatic cervical spinal cord injuries

• To control and restrict flexion, rotation, and extension movements of the neck

Compared to simpler cervical collars, the Minerva Orthosis provides much greater stability and control, making it an ideal option in cases where complete neck immobilization is necessary. It is usually custom-made or available in adjustable sizes to fit different patients and helps them safely and stably undergo the healing period of cervical vertebrae and spinal cord injuries. Its use should be supervised by a physician or orthotist.
